You've got a really cool game here.

(+3)

Hey, thanks for that. I appreciate the encouragement. There's a lot coming down the pipe for this spring, summer, and beyond that I've had a bunch of fun developing these past few months. Looking forward to sharing it on here.

(+1)

Honestly a really fun game, actually looking forward to every girl's routes being expanded since I for once in a game like this really enjoy all of their personalities so I can't wait to see where you take this game. Also the humor and references are pretty funny/enjoyable in my opinion.

(+1)

Thank you for making this. Sorry for the too much info coming but it'll be short. I used to be able to play music and I was going to go somewhere with it but then I got into an accident and it wasn't possible anymore. Love this game way more than I thought I would. Emotional, unique characters. The gorgeous soundtrack so far. I hope you complete this. I'm a big fan.

(+1)

Hey Grey, thanks for dropping by to leave a comment and share a little about your experience with music. I can only take guesses as to how the loss of ability status in such an abrupt manner would feel, but I sure am glad to hear you found something in my game that moves you.

There really is nothing like performing once you've done it, or being in that creative musical zone where hours pass you by before you know it. Nothing I'm aware of can replace that feeling. But you've fostered enough of a relationship with music that, even now, it still manages to keep some kind of a hold over you. That matters, I think.

I'm sorry to hear about your accident, and I'm glad that music still has a place in your life. I hope you can continue to find new ways to connect with that creative part of yourself.

Patreon?

(+3)

I don't have one, sorry. But thanks for expressing potential interest in supporting this project. I do seriously appreciate that.

(1 edit) (+1)

As someone whos been playing music since 5th grade I have a huge respect for you for putting in my instrument of choice the string bass into the game. Not to mention Im from the midwest so this game feels like home

(+1)

Glad you're enjoying the game. Love me some good bass, 2D or 3D. Been listening to Brian Bromberg's Wood II this week while I work on new stuff. I highly recommend the album if you're into technical, and sometimes a little flashy, upright stuff. Thanks for dropping by.

Most of the +18 visual novel on itch are above average at best, but sometimes you find gems like this one. Perfect Pitch manages to tell a great story so far (v0.5) with interesting characters that are more than just foils to the MC or caricatures of a stereotype. I would rate this as one of my favourites as the writing has the same quality and character that you would find in games like "Out of Touch" and others like it. I am looking forward to the full version.

Hey there, I was just wondering if you have any way to donate to the project? I'm in love with what I played so far, and any way that I can help develop more of it would be amazing

(+1)

Hey, thanks! That's very kind of you to say, and it makes me happy to hear that this project has made a positive impact on you. But no, I am not soliciting any donations for this game nor do I plan to do so.

Wrote a review on F95 I'd like to cross-post here since it looks like dev does not have a presence there:

"A game about music, romance, and the covid-19 pandemic as a convenient plot device" does summarize this AVN up pretty well. I was pretty surprised to see five updates and no reviews, and then I played it. I can see why people would have just dropped it. I will be honest... the beginning is a slog, and the use of COVID hits you like a sledgehammer. Contrast that to, say, Now & Then, which played with the traditional zombie genre during the COVID era by evoking themes of isolation and the destruction of old norms.

Get past the first hour, however, and it gets much better. It fits within that Lessons in Love/Sensei Overnight category of Koikatsu harem games organized around weekly schedules, a cast of LIs, and event triggers. Instead of a mentally broken teacher in Japan, you play a prodigy teenage musician brought into an all-girls music conservatory in rural Midwestern US by an eccentric Headmistress to act as a mentor/object of desire to her pupils of great potential. The stakes are... the conservatory is at risk of closing during the COVID era economy, and the last chance at survival is impressing a billionaire investor with a Spring Showcase of all the students.

Over the course of the next few months, the MC attends classes with the star pupils in A-wing, and slowly but surely a few of them warm up to him more than others. The love interests don't fit the same anime archetypes as in aforementioned comparable AVNs, but a few of them are still one-dimensional this early on. But as typical from this "genre", most of the developed LIs have faced hardships in their lives, and much the romance involves the MC relating to them by listening, consoling, and giving his own background. The quality of dialogue writing is excellent, and I would be surprised and impressed if the dev is not a native English speaker.

Unfortunately, the writing fails in two places: the MC, and the plot. The MC is a Gary Stu with no discernable flaws, and the Headmistress spends the entire AVN talking about how wonderful and talented he is. He is humble and recognizes how good he has it, but the lack of flaws ultimately makes him merely a vessel for the reader and not an interesting character to root for. When he speaks of his parents suffering in the early days of COVID, it falls flat. Speaking of COVID, you could completely remove all references to it and make it simply about living isolated in the middle of nowhere at a conservatory and the plot would be unaffected. As someone without musical talents, experiencing life among these young creatives is interesting, and constant reference to COVID feels pointless and does not seem to be relevant to anything moving forward in the plot.

Within the character-driven elements of the plot, the romance is extremely well written, especially in the last two updates. The emotions of the LIs feel genuine and heartfelt, and I found myself rooting for quite a few of them. I was heavily concerned early on that it would become a catch 'em all harem game when a lewd scene popped up with a LI within the first 30 minutes, but the writing for that character since that event has been realistic within this world's logic. These are eccentric girls, with one boy, in the middle of nowhere, encouraged by a (somewhat creepy) eccentric Headmistress, but they are also inexperienced and anxious girls. Their actions reflect this reality, so progress toward lewd scenes is slow but purposeful, and lewd scenes are awkward when they occur, except when involving the more experienced more depraved staff members.

Perhaps an artistic choice, perhaps a limitation of the dev, but some of the models are not very appealing. I suspect part of it is an attempt to make the girls appear less Japanese in the Koikatsu engine, but it has mixed results.

In overall, I played this out of curiosity, but I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. Its quality across all releases probably justifies 3 stars, but with the strength of the romance dialogue and the improvements in recent updates, I will give it 4 stars.

Keep in mind my criticism is my opinion and its your story to tell. Rest assured, soundsommelier, this is an AVN I will be following! This will catch its audience in due time and I anticipate this AVN will only get better! I would hazard to say the 0.4 and 0.5 content feels like a different game.

I am most impressed so far with the Kaylyn, Lily and Jayd plots. Lily is an absolute sweetheart, and Kaylyn's intensity is... yikes.

(+1)

Hi there. Thanks for the well-written critique of this project. It's clear that you've given this a good amount of time and critical thought, which I greatly appreciate.

For whatever it's worth to those reading these comments, covid is not central to my long term goals for this project. In January 2021 when I began writing this game, the salience of the whole lockdown phenomenon was very intriguing to me— social islands of people baking sourdough bread and walking through empty streets against the grim backdrop of tens of thousands of people dying each day. Independent of politics, independent of personal liberties and decision making, I was very interested in that juxtaposition. And I wanted to explore it while talking about music.

I mention it further down in these comments, but exactly how I want to approach the stories told in this game has shifted considerably since its first release. And while I don't have a crystal clear view of where this game is headed, I do intend for covid to remain just background noise in this game— it's there to bring a historical realism (whether it peeves the player or not) to the events of a time that I happen to think is pretty interesting. With the exception of Lyndsie's poor, distant Halmeoni, no one in this game is catching covid. Although one person is in fact very, very sick.

I'll be the first to admit that this game starts off clunky while I got my bearings. It isn't amazing, and it doesn't do a stellar job selling what comes after. But it is a part of this game's history, and that much is enough for me to want to leave what's written as is. Because, as much as I sound like a broken record by now, I do this as a hobby to entertain myself, and so far I've had a lot of fun. It's all gravy if someone else feels moved by what I've written, or decides that Mozart does, in fact, slap.

Thanks again for the review, Van.

(+1)

I have loved this game ever since I ran across it.  Just a fun game love the girls and their personalities and love the music too! What a great mix. You can tell you quite versed in the musical world. I did jazz orchestra and marching as well in high  school. I miss those times occasionally. Anyway thanks it's a fun game. Wish you had a patreon account. Thanks creating this cool world.

(+1)

Hey there, thanks for the encouragement. I'm really glad to hear this game is getting some folks excited about classical music, if only for a little while. Unsurprisingly, it's a topic that's near and dear to me.

Might be an unlikely format to foster appreciation for instrumental music, but it's certainly what I know best. And if this game can inspire someone to dip their toe into the world of classical music, jazz, or what have you; then that alone is enough to make the hundreds of hours I've put into building this project worth it. Thanks again for stopping by.

(+1)

It has renewed my appreciation for the classical music. It is perhaps an unconventional format but it a good one. I've really enjoyed it. If you ever get a patreon site let me know. Thanks again!

(+2)

I do wish the game gave you more options... i hope a future update will do something about that.

(-1)

It's true. The game is very railroaded. So much so that it barely qualifies as one in my book. You just watch scenes play out in one way and you as a "player" have no say in the matter. It's almost a KN.

(+1)

You're correct. This project is highly prescriptive by design, and it's a good point to consider for anyone on the fence about downloading the game.

If a lack of player agency and meaningful decision-making is a deal breaker for someone scrolling through these comments, then Perfect Pitch might not be for you.

If you're open to an experience where the author attempts to create rich, meaningful, and hopefully organic experiences between characters in an interesting way, then this could be worth your time.

At any rate, thanks for the opportunity to clarify this point about my game.

(+2)

So just started playing this today and I fell down the rabbit hole for 6 hours.  Loving your characters, even the MC, who i usually have a hard time relating to VN but damn you have a knack for this.  6 hours and I know I have so much more to get through.

(+2)

That's super nice of you to say. Thanks, I appreciate it.

If I can ask, any idea roughly how many of the events you have made your way through when you made this comment? I have my own short hand for estimating playtime and I'm curious to hear about how much content 6 hours translates to, at least in your experience.

I'm not exactly sure to be honest.  I tend to play a bit slow as I like to reread most dialogue once or twice to make sure I am actually understanding what the author is trying to say.  Oh but I did notice that I went on the first date with Lyndsey without doing the scene in the concert choir class where the MC talks to her in Korean for a moment and she invites us to join her in searching for fossils.  I did that scene after going on the date with her.  It didn't seem to break anything but it did disorient me for a moment.

(+1)

I'm a bit stumped on the Lyndsie date bug. Both the archived 0.4 script and my active script seem to be written correctly for this event chain. Couldn't replicate it with a new game either. Maybe someone down the road will see this bug and comment, and offer some insight.

(+2)

I thought it was weird too cause I hadn't even been told I could invite Lyndsie on a date yet.  Just woke up on a saturday and was going on the date with her.  Had something similar happen with Willow.  Went to meditate at the shrine for the first time and she was there to give me pointers on meditation but then the next time I saw her in the choir room she asked me if I meditate.  Just wondered if these were in the correct order or not.  But I have to say again how much I am enjoying this story.  The story with Lily is just next level and if it wasn't for the existence of Jayd I'd say Lily was my absolute favorite.  But all the girls that are willing to give us the time of day are so much fun to interact with.  No idea if I've done everything that can be done so far but I think I have and I can't wait to see what more you have instore for the future.  Can't forget to give some love to the non S-wing girls as well.  They have personalities and they add great depth to the story.

okay dumb question so if you repeat a date dose that count towards the onsen progress or no and is it worth grinding out now or is it gonna tell me its coming soo once i do??

(+1)

Not a dumb question at all, but yes it does count. There are no onsen events yet and there won't be for a good long while. I don't really want to say more because that whole bit is in a very murky planning state right now.

It's not my place or anyone's place to tell you how to play the game, but I will say that I didn't build this with the intention of grinding as a completion condition. The idea is that these conditions would be satisfied naturally over the course of the game and its updates once I get around to it. You're more than welcome to hang around exclusively for the H-scenes, but for the sake of transparency I should tell you that the erotic stuff is not my only focus here. In fact I hesitate to even call it a focus as it is really more a consequence of this type of story telling. Hope that answers your question.

it did thank you very much and its all good if the story is good (which it really is ) then im okay with not alot of erotic/h scenes so no worry's there i was just more or less asking if it was worth it and as of now its not so all good ill wait also there's 3 gallery images that are locked not sure how to unlock them as ive done all the events that are listed  i would post a screen shot of it but no idea how to do the spoiler thing on here for pictures

(+1)

That's okay, I have a pretty good guess of which ones you are talking about. If the 3 locked gallery images you're referring to are in row 2 of the Math Homework toggle, and they are the three left-most images, then you may want to explore sleepovers a bit more.

those would be the ones lol okay i will do tha

(+1)

In love with this game. Carolina Crown praise AND Sam O'Nella references? Pure art.

DO i have to start a new game to get the new content?

Not unless you've completely deleted older versions of Perfect Pitch from your computer. I recognize your screen name, so I know that you've been around since at least the previous release and likely have a save file that the 0.4 version can call upon.

To account for new information getting revealed, new occurrences, new feelings, and that sort of thing; this game locks some events behind a set of pre-requisites. Said another way, information in event "A" and "B" is critical to understand event "C". So event "C" remains locked behind the A & B pre-requisites.

In a future update, the event list menu will have a little lock icon next to events which have yet to have their pre-requisite events completed. This way you aren't chasing your tail from class to class or date to date.

In the meantime, take a look at this event list to see what all has or has not been completed. If an event doesn't appear to trigger, you probably need to complete a different event first.

The Niedermeyer event has more pre-requisites than any other event at the moment because it's so big. To get this to proc you'll need to have completed Mountain Girl, Putting Down Roots, Delight & Despair, Tutto a Posto, Real or Imagined?, and Good Company. The Niedermeyer event also procs on Fridays only.

The lock icon in future updates should help address this sort of confusion.

I loaded a old save from the last update . Where the game left off  it was still the end of the game. So  I thought I would have to start all over again.

The game should effectively loop on forever, so without seeing exactly what you're seeing, my only advice is to right click while in the game and click the Event List. From there, you should see events yet to be completed in purple. You may have to scroll quite a ways to find the events I mentioned in my comment above.

i liked it tho i wish there were a bit more story tho still very very good

(1 edit) (+1)(-2)

I don't know what the hell you're planning with Kaylyn, but there needs to have a redemption for what she does. And I need to know... is this game gonna be a harem? With all that talk with Jayd and choosing the one and only, makes me think this game will not be a harem game.

Moreover, if this game is actually a harem game then, I hope it'll be an actual harem for the MC. It's sickening to see polyamory games call themselves harem games, even though they are really not. I'm hoping this game won't be another copy of Lessons in Love, with all the heartbreaking events with the lesbians stuff. For once, I want to see a normal school setting of a game, without it being a copy of LiL.

A notice, there's a bug with Willow's relationship points. I don't know at what point this occurred, but the number eventually changed to "True" then right after adding another point, the entire count restarts once again from 1.

Lastly, that blueballing with Aly though... I think the MC deserves some sex after all the decent time he has stayed in school. That feature about the onsen though, hoping that can come soon.

That's all for now, I think.

(+2)

Firstly, thank you for pointing out that issue with Willow's relationship points. That error has now been corrected in the live release. The rest of this comment is as much for you as anyone else visiting my page.

Secondly, and to perhaps address the rest of your comments/concerns and then some, let me be quite clear that I am making this all up as I go.

This game is free for a reason: I develop it in my free time because it is fun to do so. Do I have a vague, general direction that I want this project to go? Yes. Do these nebulous sketches I keep in my phone's notepad change and evolve from one release to another? Of course they do.

Like so very many other visual novel developers, but particularly those developing with Renpy+KK, I certainly do take cues from LIL.

Selebus is a well-established trailblazer of this medium and deservedly so. But Perfect Pitch is hardly a copy of Lessons in Love any more than modern composers "copy" Mozart, Rossini, Saint-Saens, and so on.

The "DNA" encoded into the seminal works of these giants of classical music, and similarly that of Selebus for the purpose of my long-winded metaphor, will and should appear, in some fashion, into the works that follow— Selebus stands on many shoulders, too.

I develop this game, first and foremost, for myself. It's a creative outlet like any other. And in doing so, I am not beholden to a small group of patrons that feed me and keep my utilities running. Perfect Pitch is simply a hobby for me, albeit a time consuming one. And this approach to development is what has produced the version of Perfect Pitch that is available to anyone who wishes to give it a try today, for whatever that's worth.

-------------------------------

Will Perfect Pitch be a "harem" game according to the strictest definition of the term?

  • Maybe, I honestly don't know.

Will Perfect Pitch follow a logical, well-structured, organized series of events that seamlessly cascade from one release to another?

  • Almost certainly not.

Will Perfect Pitch be a game that attempts to deliver an experience where characters interact with each other in interesting and meaningful ways, so long as the developer has fun and enjoys doing so?

  • That's the plan, at least.

Is this game really for me?

  • It might not be., and that's okay.
(+1)

Thanks for the response, and well... as much I would want to see something I play be something I would actually like, then... I guess I'll keep on playing until I find some unpleasant thing I found about the game and immediately quit. Yeah, even with all of my preference and dislikes, I still enjoyed so many parts of the game as is.

(+1)

You might be able to squeeze an "Erotic" tag in there as well.

(+2)

Oh! I almost missed this! Please developer, if you are still working on this and plan to include any 18+ content in-game, then add the

"Adult" and "NSFW" tags to the game description.

The "Eroge" tag alone is not enough, to make the game easy to find on itch.

Thanks for the free game :)

(+2)

Thanks for the tip! I've added those tags.

Keep an eye out for a new release in the next couple of weeks.

very noice so far keep it up
